The Long Island Game Farm Wildlife and Children's Zoo features hundreds of animals, including an 18-foot giraffe, red kangaroos, kinkajous, cougars, Barbados sheep, peacocks, and the only lemurs born and bred on Long Island. The animal collections include both exotic and indigenous breeds. There are various breeds of monkeys, buffalo, colorful parrots, zebra, aoudads, camels, ostrich, alligator, and much more.


Open 7 days a week through Columbus Day, The Long Island Game Farm — Wildlife Park and Children’s Zoo provides an ideal destination for families and school groups. From alligators to zebras, the Game Farm hosts hundreds of animals that visitors can touch and feed. The park also features train and carnival rides. During the summer, the world-renowned “Muttville Comix Canine Comedy Show” with Johnny Peers will come to the 500-seat amphitheater. Five weeks a year, the Game Farm hosts “Camp Zoo,” a weeklong day camp that caters to children ages 4-11.


The petting zoo areas encourage visitors to to pet, cuddle, and bottle feed the baby animals. "Old MacDonald's Farmyard," for example, provides a true barnyard experience where pigs, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and ponies are all within arms reach.

Children can also enjoy one of the carnival-style rides such as the Spinning Teacups, Rio Grande Mini Train or the Antique Carousel. The Game Farm also offers pony rides. There are daily shows and animal activities will round out your day.

The Town of Brookhaven Ecology Site, Park & Animal Preserve is located on a reclaimed landfill. Since 1974, when the landfill closed, the Town of Brookhaven Highway Department employees had worked to re-vegetate the hills filled with garbage and to build a modern recreational and educational facility.

Some of the amenities at the Holtsville Park include: a triple pool complex; exercise-trail fitness course; nature preserve and ecology center, featuring Buffalo, Bobcats, Eagles; ecology exhibits and tours; free compost; greenhouses; picnic area. Zoo (free admission) is open from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., seven days a week. The zoo has the following winter hours: 9am - 3pm Monday - Friday and 9am - 4pm Saturday and Sunday. Park opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes at dusk.


The Animal Farm Petting Zoo

The Petting Zoo has pony and turtle train rides, "Super Cow" Musical Puppet Show and Creatures Encounters Show. Visitors can bottle feed baby pigs, cows, goats and pigs. Amenities include: a Safari Train Ride for the entire family, Nature Shop, Picnic Areas and playgrounds. The Zoo is open from April to October.

The Suffolk County Farm

The Suffolk County Farm is a model farm education facility and also a real working farm. Visitors are able to see a century old working farm which still holds a tie to the past through the historic hay barn, while showcasing present-day agriculture.

The farm is open seven days a week from 9am - 3pm except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Remember we are a working farm and caution should be used as we have rough terrain and uneven surfaces. Please wear closed toe shoes and appropriate clothing for being outdoors. The roads are stroller and wheelchair accessible but are gravel. Admission is free but all visitors MUST sign in at our Visitor Center prior to visiting the farm.



"Discovery" Wetlands Cruises

Guided by a naturalist this is a special experience on a 35 passenger pontoon boat navigating through 88 acres of a wetlands preserve. Cruises operate May through October and visitors can enjoy and learn about wildlife and ecology up close. Morning, midday and sunset cruises are available as well as dinner packages at Three Village Inn, Pentimento and The Country House before or after a sunset cruise. Call 631-751-2244 for reservations.
